The glow Down
Everything you need to know before, during, and after your spray tan so you can walk in feeling prepared and leave feeling confident.
Before your appointment
-
Exfoliate thoroughly about 24 hours before your appointment, paying extra attention to dry areas like elbows, knees, ankles, hands, and feet. Arrive with clean, dry skin and avoid applying lotion, oils, deodorant, perfume, or makeup beforehand.
-
Try to shave the day before or wax at least 48-72 hours before your appointment. This gives your skin time to settle and helps create a smoother surface for your tan.
-
Wear loose, dark clothing that won’t rub against your fresh tan. Oversized tees, loose pants or joggers, and easy-on shoes are great choices. Avoid tight waistbands, leggings, bras, and restrictive clothing immediately afterward.
-
For the best application, arrive with clean skin free of lotions, oils, deodorant, perfume, and makeup whenever possible. These products can create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution. We understand life happens and we have wipes available!
-
It’s better to exfoliate the day before, or at least 6-12 hours before, rather than immediately before your tan. Exfoliating ahead of time helps remove dry skin while giving your skin time to return to its normal condition before application.
-
For weddings, photos, vacations, or special occasions, I recommend scheduling your spray tan about 2 days before the event so your color has time to fully develop and settle into its finished glow.
-
No worries — we’ll talk about the look you want, your skin tone, your rinse time, and what to expect before we begin. You don’t need to know exactly what options to choose; that’s part of the custom experience.
After your appointment
-
Your rinse time depends on whether you booked an OG or Rapid tan. I’ll give you your exact rinse instructions before you leave so you know when it’s safe to shower.
-
You may see some color wash away during your first rinse — that’s normal. Your tan will continue developing afterward, and the final color will become more noticeable over the next several hours.
-
For the first rinse, keep it quick and gentle. Avoid scrubbing the skin, and follow the instructions given at your appointment for the best result.
-
Pat your skin dry with a towel instead of rubbing. Friction can make the tan fade faster, especially in areas like the chest, waist, and thighs.
-
Once you’ve completed your first rinse and your skin is dry, moisturizing daily helps keep the skin hydrated and supports a smoother, more even fade.
-
Avoid sweating until after your recommended rinse time. After that, you can return to your normal routine, but frequent heavy sweating may shorten the life of your tan.
-
You can, but chlorine, hot tubs, and long periods in water can cause your tan to fade faster. If you want your glow to last, limit prolonged exposure when possible.
Solutions: OG vs. Rapid vs. clear
-
OG is the classic Beettan experience with a traditional development window. Rapid is designed for clients who want to rinse sooner. Clear applies without a botanical bronzer, so your color develops gradually without an instant guide color.
-
Choose OG if you’re comfortable with a traditional development time, Rapid if you need a shorter rinse window, or Clear if you prefer a botanical bronzer-free application. Your final color still depends on your skin, development time, and the rinse instructions you’re given.
-
Not necessarily. Rapid refers to the rinse timing, not automatically a deeper final color. Your result still depends on your skin, development time, and the instructions you’re given.
-
All are designed to create a natural-looking Beettan glow. The main difference is timing and convenience rather than one being “better” than the other. Clear develops over time just like other DHA-based sunless tans, but because it goes on without a botanical bronzer, you won’t see the same immediate guide color during the development period.
-
That mostly comes down to your schedule and preference. OG works well when you have time for a traditional development window, Rapid is useful when you need to rinse sooner, and Clear is a good choice when you want a lower-mess, botanical bronzer-free development experience. All solutions will reach their peak development around 2-3 days.

result & longevity
-
With good prep and aftercare, your tan will typically last about 7–14 days, depending on your skin, lifestyle, and daily routine.
-
Your color continues developing after your rinse and should be fully developed by about day 2.
-
Absolutely not! The goal is always a natural-looking result. Beettan’s formula is designed to work with your skin tone and develop into a sun-kissed glow rather than a heavy, overly bronzed finish.
-
Proper prep, daily moisturizing, gentle cleansing, and avoiding harsh exfoliation all help your tan fade more evenly.
-
Long hot showers, chlorine, hot tubs, frequent swimming, heavy sweating, exfoliating products, dry skin, coconut oil, and certain products can all shorten the life of your tan.
-
You can rebook once your previous tan has faded or been removed and your skin is prepped for a fresh application.
-
You sure can! Moisturize daily, use tan-friendly products, keep showers shorter and lukewarm, and avoid exfoliating until you’re ready to remove the tan.
About DHA
-
DHA, or dihydroxyacetone, is the active sunless-tanning ingredient that reacts with amino acids in the outermost layer of skin to create temporary color without UV exposure.
-
Our Beettan solution uses naturally derived DHA from sugar beet.
-
No. DHA works in the outermost layer of the skin, which is why the color gradually fades as those surface skin cells naturally shed.
-
Your tan will be at its peak development around day 2-3. Your exact rinse time depends on the service you booked, so follow the instructions given at your appointment.
-
Our Beettan solution emphasizes a bronzer-free approach to help reduce staining, mess, and the heavy cosmetic-bronzer look often associated with traditional spray tans. We use a botanical color guide made of walnut husks and natural caramel color.
